Appliance maker Petters Consumer Brands, LLC, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, recalled an estimated 3,600 Sunbeam gas ranges. Consumers were advised to stop using the ranges immediately. The ranges were manufactured in Costa Rica by Atlas Industrial S.A.

According to Petters, the ranges lack an adequate heat shield and can cause scorching of certain flooring materials directly under the appliance. Petters Consumer Brands received two reports of scorched floors. No injuries or other damage has been reported.

The recalled Sunbeam branded gas ranges are various colors and show the Sunbeam brand name on the backguard panel.

The ranges were sold at stores throughout the U.S. in February 2006 through May 2006 for between U.S. $200 and $400.
