China's washing machine exports have been increasing by more than 50 percent annually, but global sales are slowing according to a China Sourcing report from Research and Markets. Growth in exports will continue in 2006, the report says, but the industry in China could hit a rough patch as new challenges loom, including intensifying competition and increasing production costs.

The report says washing machine and dryer OEMs in China exported U.S. $1.1 billion worth of products in 2005, up 74 percent from 2004. Washing machines accounted for $1 billion of the total and represented a 75-percent year-on-year growth. The report says household top-load washers and mini-washers are generally the strong point for China's laundry OEMs, but there are companies producing front-loading household washing machines, clothes dryers and industrial laundry equipment.
