Hisense Expands South African Production

 Hisense's will make a U.S. $19 million investment in its South Africa manufacturing facility, according to a Xinhua report. The Chinese OEM currently produces 200,000 TVs in South Africa.  When the expansion is completed in late 2009, the facility will have annual South African capacity of 400,000 color TVs, 300,000 refrigerators and 100,000 washing machines. Xinhua cited Yu Youhai, vice chairman of the board of Hisense in South Africa.

The report said Hisense Group launched South African production in 1997 and production, sales and profit growth have averaged about 20-30 percent.  Hisense's South Africa business had reported 2006 income of $47 million and profit of $1.26 million.
