Business appliance maker Dell plans to expand its Americas customer-contact operations and increase employment at its Middle Tennessee, U.S. facilities by up to 1,000 people over the next several quarters.
Since Dell's launch of its Middle Tennessee operations in August 1999 with about 200 production, sales and call center employees, the company has expanded its work force to approximately 3,500.
Dell currently has three facilities in Middle Tennessee:
A 260,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Lebanon that produces Dimension and OptiPlex desktop computers.
A 360,000-square-foot office facility on the Nashville campus housing Dell's technical support call center and sales operations.
A 250,000-square-foot fulfillment center servicing customers in the eastern U.S.
The Middle Tennessee customer contact center interacts with a variety of customers and businesses throughout the U.S. and Canada. The employment increase is being driven by an expansion of sales professionals for additional lines of business, including public sector and corporate accounts, and an addition of Dell services technicians and managers who provide technical resolutions to personal computer, server and storage customers.
