Gorenje Sells Crystal-Covered Refrigerators in London
Slovenian-based appliance maker Gorenje is selling two versions of its Premium Touch refrigerators at Harrods, a London department store chain.

The most expensive of the Premium Touch refrigerators -- the "Eye-catcher" -- is covered with 7,000 Swarovski crystals and priced at just under GBP 9,999 (approx. U.S. $18,576). Gorenje has manufactured only 5 of the to date, all sold for charity.

Additionally, two other models are available in the company's commercial series. Covered with 3,500 Swarovski crystals in two rows, the units sell for around GBP 775 (approx. $1,439).

While other Gorenje appliances are also on sale at Harrods, the Premium Touch line will only be available for purchase in May and June 2006.

The refrigerators feature a touch-screen control mounted at eye-level on the refrigerator door that allows setting adjustments, displays temperatures and warns of any problems. The screen also functions as the interface for a built-in radio, recipe book and voice memo recorder/player.
