Maytag Cuts 65 Workers in Newton May 3, 2006 |

About 65 workers were laid off at the Maytag laundry appliances plant in Newton, Iowa, U.S. on Friday according to an AP report sourcing Whirlpool Corporation. The reduction leaves the plant with about 950 workers, down from about 2,700 production employees in early 2001. A spokesperson for Whirlpool said there is reduced demand for the types of laundry products made in Newton.
