HVAC manufacturer Lennox Industries introduced its Healthy Climate(R) 16 (HC16) Media Air Cleaner, which is reportedly the most efficient product of its kind on the market. It is said to be the first whole-house media air cleaner on the market to be rated at MERV 16.
MERV is an industry rating which stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, with ratings ranging from 1 to 20 -- the higher the rating, the better the filtration, with ratings higher than 16 used primarily for specialized environments such as clean rooms, high-risk operating rooms and areas dealing with hazardous materials. Lennox has obtained a 3-year exclusivity agreement with a manufacturing partner to market the HC16.
Designed to be easily installed with a home's existing heating and cooling system, the HC16 works directly with the home's central air system to remove over 95 percent of circulated particles (dust and pet dander) and bioaerosols (mold and dust mites) down to 0.3 microns, according to Lennox. Unlike many electronic air cleaners, the HC16 does not produce ozone, a known lung irritant.
"It is obvious an increasing number of consumers, especially those with children, are searching for the most efficient and effective way to improve the quality of the air in their home," said Bob McDonough, president and COO, Lennox International Inc. Worldwide Heating and Cooling. "The development of industry-leading, whole-house solutions such as the HC16 shows our commitment to provide the most innovative products to meet these growing needs."
