Matsushita Sees European Blu-ray Launch in Autumn Mar 9, 2006

Japan's consumer electronics group Matsushita said it would introduce Blu-ray DVD players in Europe in the autumn of 2006, and set targets for sales of flat TVs and digital still cameras.

Matsuhita, which sells its products under the Panasonic and JVC brands, did not set a price for Blu-ray players.

European president Joachim Reinhart also said Panasonic aimed to sell 1 million plasma flat TVs as well as 800,000 LCD flat televisions in Europe in 2006. Globally, it aims for a 40 percent market share in plasma TVs this year.

In digital still cameras, Panasonic targets a 10 percent market share in 2006, both in Europe and worldwide. The company has been a relatively late entrant into the digital still camera market. It targets to sell 3 million digital cameras in 2006 in Europe, up from just over 1 million in 2005. (Reuters)
