Krups Recalls Espresso Makers Feb 20, 2006

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, electric housewares maker Krups recalled an estimated 2,100 units of its Orchestro Espresso Makers. Consumers were advised to stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

According to Krups, the electrical connectors in the espresso machine can erode, posing a fire hazard. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled espresso makers are black and silver, have a silver control panel, and can make two cups of espresso at once. The word “KRUPS” is printed on the front of the machine. The model number and factory mark are stamped on a silver sticker on the bottom of the machine. The recall includes the following model numbers: 889-45 with factory mark F8894556, and 890-41 with factory mark F8904156.

The espresso makers were sold at department stores and independent specialty stores throughout the U.S. from January 1999 through November 2005 for about U.S. $850.
