IHA Names IKEA gia World Honoree Feb 17, 2006

The International Housewares Association (IHA) said IKEA is the inaugural gia World Honoree, part of the Global Innovator Award (gia) program to honor retailing excellence around the world.

IKEA's award will be presented at a special event in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. during IHA's 2006 International Home & Housewares Show.

IKEA was voted gia World Honoree by a panel of global retail experts on the basis of its superior operations performance, business innovation, corporate social responsibility, and contributions to the worldwide home goods industry.

The gia World jury consists of retail experts from Accenture, Euromonitor International, The Fashion Institute of Technology, The Retail Element, and an independent retail consulting firm. gia World is co-sponsored by IHA and Euromonitor International.

"IKEA has a clear strategic direction. Its social responsibility ties directly to its business, and the commitment to their people has also been a well-executed part of their strategy," observed Patricia Walker, Partner in Accenture's Retail Practice.

IKEA also scored high in corporate and social responsibility with its longstanding contributions to worldwide children's issues and environmental improvement.
