Consumer electronics maker Samsung Electronics announced it has sold 1 million LCD TVs with its 8-Series displays.

The sales volume was achieved 1 year after the 8-Series product line went into mass production in February 2005. According to research firm iSuppli, the global market for LCD TVs exceeded 19.6 million units in 2005 and out of every 20 units sold worldwide one was a Samsung 8 Series LCD TV.

In the U.S., Samsung’s 8 Series LCD TVs include the 23-inch LN-R238W, 26-inch LN-R268W, the 32-inch LN-R328W, and the 40-inch LN-R408D. The 8 Series features Samsung's proprietary Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA) technology screen for a contrast ratio of 3,000:1. Samsung says this innovation translates to brighter whites, deeper blacks and truer reproduction of every shade in between than previous models. Samsung's Digital Natural Image engine (DNIe™) optimizes motion, contrast, color, and detail for exceptional image clarity and picture resolution. The widescreen LCDs also feature a 170-degree horizontal and vertical viewing angle.

Additionally, a high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) allows simple cable connection with HD signal devices. Due to its enhanced look, the 8 Series was recognized for its innovative design, receiving the prestigious IF Design Award in 2005.
