Hitachi Eyes 43 Percent Share of Japan Plasma TV Market Dec 22, 2005

Hitachi Ltd plans to secure a 43 percent share in Japan's plasma TV market in the fiscal year starting in April 2008, and 20 percent of the global market, the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, citing its Managing Director Makoto Ebata.

The company intends to raise its global monthly output capacity for plasma and LCD TVs to 330,000 units from 70,000 in the year to March 2008, with plans to build assembly plants in Eastern Europe and other European locations starting that year, the Nihon Keizai said.

Flat-screen TVs are expected to account for nearly half of Hitachi's digital home appliances sales target of 1.5 trillion yen (approx. U.S. $12.8 million) for the financial year starting in April 2010, according to the report. (Forbes)
