South Korea retook the top spot for OEM-based large-size LCD panel shipments with monthly shipments of 8.9 million panels and a 44.6 percent share of the market; Taiwan followed with a 43 percent share and 8.6 million shipments per month.

Japan continued to rely heavily on small-to-medium-size panels, causing its share of the large-size market to fall to 9.5 percent with 1.9 million units shipped. China's share, though small, increased from 1.1 percent to 2.8 percent with shipments more than tripling to 570,000 panels.

LCD TV panel shipments increased 152 percent on year to 2.6 million units per month. The top five suppliers shipped 94 percent of all LCD TV panels.

Revenues for large-size TFT LCD panels increased 29 percent sequentially and 51 percent on year to U.S. $12.4 billion, as LCD TV panel revenues were up 136 percent on year. Overall, the large-area TFT LCD panel ASP (average selling price) continued to recuperate by growing 8 percent sequentially to $206 last quarter, up from $192 in the second quarter of this year.

Taiwan had overtaken Korea in OEM-based large-size panel shipments with a 45 percent share in the second quarter, up from 43 percent. Korea's share fell from 45.2 percent to 44.6 percent, according to a DisplaySearch press release in September. (DigiTimes)
