Johnson Controls, Inc. said it completed the acquisition of York International on Friday, December 9. At the close of the transaction the Johnson Controls board of directors elected former York President and CEO C. David Myers as a vice president and corporate officer of Johnson Controls. It also named Myers president of its building efficiency business.

Johnson Controls is a maker of energy management and building controls. York International is a producer of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning equipment.

"The complementary capabilities of the two businesses create an offering that will reshape our industry," Myers said. "Whether it’s a single facility or global organization, customers will now have access to unmatched, end-to-end integrated products and services."

For example, Johnson said, a multi-site global company can now have a single source to purchase, install and service mechanical equipment and other integrated systems and services. The result, Johnson said, will be the delivery of one-stop systems, faster installations, more efficient operations, and a competitive cost structure.

Some systems-related priorities include the convergence of Johnson Controls Metasys building management system and York's ISN ConneXsys controls to ensure uninterrupted operations. In addition, Johnson Controls will soon be factory-mounted on some York light commercial equipment, thus providing packaged rooftop units with both N2 and BACNet protocols. The company will also focus on establishing Johnson Controls connectivity for all commercial products that will support gateway integration or protocols supported by native systems.

"In most cases, the best solution for our customers will be an integrated Johnson Controls/York offering. When that’s not the case, we will offer our customers flexibility and address their needs with other solutions," said Myers.
