Australia's Central Western Daily newspaper reports that an Electrolux refrigerator factory in Orange was closed Sunday evening by a spill of hazardous chemicals and but was expected to re-open at full production capacity.

The paper reports that the plant on Edward Street in Orange was shut when it was discovered that a holding tank was leaking liquid MDI, used in the polyurethane foam insulation of refrigerator cabinets. No injuries were reported, but the plant was idled for two shifts, keeping about 640 employees off the job. The newspaper report says the closure comes during a busy time of year for the plant, which is traditionally busy during the Christmas hliday season.

A malfunction in the holding tank was blamed for the leak, according to the newspaper report.

The Orange plant in New South Wales became a part of Electrolux when the Swedish appliance giant acquired appliance maker Email in 2001.
