Samsung, Sony Enter LCD Joint Venture Nov 22, 2005

A joint venture of Samsung Electronics Co. of South Korea and Sony Corp. of Japan announced it will spend 100 billion South Korean won (approx. U.S. $95.5 million) to expend its advanced LCD production line.

The S-LCD Corporation, mainly manufacturing amorphous TFT LCD panels for LCD TVs, is hoped to increase its production capacity from 60,000 panels to 75,000 panels per-month from July 2006 with the fresh investment, Samsung Electronics said.

"The decision to expand the production facility was made due to increasing market demand for LCD panels for TVs," the company said, adding the capital will be raised by S-LCD itself.

Samsung and Sony launched the joint venture in South Korea in April this year to give Sony a steady supply of flat screens for televisions and computers. (China View, Xinhuanet)
