Furthering the advancement of diagnostic imaging technologies designed to deliver clinical performance, Toshiba America Medical Systems Inc. (TAMS) announced the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's 510(k) clearance of its dedicated vascular system, the Infinix VC-i with Large Field of View (LFOV) Flat Panel Detector (FPD). The Infinix VC-i system with LFOV FPD is Toshiba's newest angiography platform, featuring state-of-the-art technology for vascular exams and interventional procedures, according to the company.

"The addition of the LFOV FPD to our VC-i platform raises the bar for next-generation diagnostic and interventional imaging," said Don Volz, director, Vascular X-ray Business Unit, TAMS. "The new FPD provides superior imaging capabilities for patients of all sizes. This is yet another demonstration of Toshiba's commitment to designing systems for exceptional clinical performance without compromising patient comfort and care."

The new technology streamlines workflow through an all-digital system for incredibly clear imaging and highly efficient vascular exams. The system provides distortion-free imaging with uniform brightness plus advanced technologies, including a powerful digital acquisition, processing and storage system--providing immediate access to images and cost-effective archiving. Also available are Zoom fluoro, 3-D angio capabilities and exceptional C-arm motion capable of unique lateral coverage to ensure smooth operation during procedures.

Other system features include dose management functions, which reportedly ensure high-quality images at the lowest dose; easy-to-use tableside controls; flexible tabletop design; and a liquid metal X-ray tube with a high heat capacity to eliminate waiting for tube cooling during long exams. The LFOV FPD also is available as an easy field-upgradeable component to existing Infinix VC-i systems.
