Consumer electronics makers Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics have won several International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Showcase Awards.

Samsung won 15 total awards, which include three "Best of Innovations" awards and 12 Honoree award, marking a new single-year record for the company. Samsung's award-winning product lineup includes three handheld cellular phones, two LCD TVs, two camcorders, two digital audio players, a home theater-in-a-box system, an expandable home theater system, a digital camera, a multifunction printer, a project projector and a 4-door refrigerator.

LG received 11 awards, including one "Best of Innovations" award in the Digital Display category and 10 "Innovations 2006 Design and Engineering Showcase" awards. With a total of 44 awards during the past 3 years, the company has won across multiple categories, including Digital Display, Mobile Communications, Home Theater, Audio Components, Video Components and Home Appliance.

Winning entries will be showcased at the 2006 International CES in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. on Jan. 5-8, 2006.

The CES Innovations Awards, now in its eighth year, awards consumer technology products that exhibit superiority in design and engineering. The awards are based on several criteria including value, aesthetics, innovation, and contribution to quality of life and are sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) with the endorsement of the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). This year more than 160 companies submitted a record number of entries totaling more than 1,000 -- an estimated 25-percent increase from 2005.

"Design, engineering and innovation are pillars in Samsung's worldwide product development plan and we are tremendously honored and proud that the CEA judges have recognized Samsung's efforts with the 15 product awards in multiple categories," states DJ Oh, president, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. "These prestigious awards showcase Samsung's continuous pledge to provide groundbreaking technologies and product that elevate the consumers' overall personal and professional lives and experiences."
