Samsung Electronics shut down its handset manufacturing plant in the Mexican border town of Tijuana in September, the firm announced. "We have closed the plant after deciding that it lacked profitability as it was capable of producing a mere 100,000 units annually," a company spokesman said. Its plant in Campinas, Brazil will handle mobile phone production for South America.

With the move, the number of Samsung Electronics' overseas phone factories drops to three, the other two being in China's Tianjin and Shenzhen. (Digital Chosunilbo)
