General Electric Company (Fairfield, Connecticut, U.S.) appointed Lloyd G. Trotter a GE executive vice president focusing on operations. James P. Campbell (pictured) was named president and CEO of GE Consumer & Industrial, succeeding Trotter.

GE Consumer & Industrial is a U.S. $14 billion global business that employs 62,000 people around the world. He will report to GE Vice Chairman John Rice. Previously, Campbell was president and CEO for GE Consumer & Industrial, Americas.

"Jim has spent his career at GE helping to build the Consumer & Industrial business and lasting relationships with its customers," said GE Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt. "We're fortunate to have someone with Jim's expertise leading Consumer & Industrial, which is so important to GE's brand and reputation."

Campbell started at GE Appliances in 1981, holding field positions in sales and merchandising. In 1992, Campbell became manager - Microwave Cooking Products and product manager - Built-In Cooking Products at GE Appliances. He later headed marketing, sales and product management organizations in appliances before being appointed vice president of sales and marketing and a GE company officer in 1999. In 2001, he was named president and CEO of GE Appliances. A year later, after the merger of GE Appliances with GE Lighting, he was named president and CEO of GE Consumer Products.

In his new role, Trotter will report to Immelt. He will lead efforts to lower structural cost and improve operational excellence across GE's businesses and will work with other GE leaders to achieve world-class performance in GE's supply chain. Trotter will also oversee the talent pipeline in operations, including the development of leaders and plant managers.

"Few people in business know more about operational excellence and developing leaders than Lloyd Trotter," Immelt said. "We are fortunate to have someone with Lloyd's operational depth and experience to lead these efforts."
