Seoul, Korea-based Samsung Electronics Company plans to spend U.S. $33 billion over 7 years, according to a Bloomberg report. The expansion will help it meet growing demand for semiconductors for Apple iPods and Dell computers. The report says chip sales will likely triple by 2012, to $61 billion. Sales in 2004 were approximately $17.5 billion, putting Samsung second to Intel in semiconductors.
Samsung plans eight new plants and a research center.
