U.S. orders for manufactured durable goods increased in August to U.S. $6.8 billion, or 3.3 percent, to $210.9 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported. This followed a 5.3 percent decrease in July.
August shipments of manufactured durable goods, up 3 of the last 4 months, increased $3.4 billion, or 1.7 percent, to $208.5 billion. This was at the highest level since the series was first stated on a NAICS basis in 1992 and followed a 0.7 percent July decrease.
Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods in August, up for the fourth consecutive month, increased $9.8 billion, or 1.7 percent, to $590.8 billion. This was at the highest level since the series began and followed a 1.1 percent July increase.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods in August, down 2 of the last 3 months, decreased $0.6 billion, or 0.2 percent, to $282.2 billion. This followed a 0.8 percent July increase.
