Candy Expands Czech Republic Refrigeration Plant Sep 22, 2005

Italian appliance maker The Candy Group has nearly doubled its refrigeration plant in Podborany, Czech Republic, to meet growing demand in Central and Eastern Europe markets.

The company opened a new 23,000-square-m facility that will increase its production capacity to over 800,000 units per year. Part of the new plant will produce components, while the remaining area will be used for storage of finished products, ready to be shipped.

Candy says the added production capacity confirms its strategy to expand volume, market share and turnover. In the first eight months of 2005, the company reported a 6-percent increase in turnover and a 8.5-percent increase in volume compared to 2004.

"Candy Group has invested approximately 50 million euros (approx. U.S. $61 million) in Podborany, where a greenfield plant -- the most updated of the Group -- has been built," Luigi Longoni, general manager of Candy's Cooling Appliance Division, said. "We are talking about state-of-the-art product manufacturing; over 90 percent is in the A Class for energy efficiency and is also at the forefront of environmental friendliness."
