Electrolux will invest U.S. $18 million to expand production at its dishwasher plant in Kinston, North Carolina, U.S. The new production capacity is expected to create 100 jobs. Acquisition of equipment and preparation of the factory has already begun, with production expected to begin in early 2007.

Electrolux, the appliance giant based in Stockholm, Sweden, with U.S. headquarters in Augusta, Georgia, is growing its North American dishwasher offering with the addition of a premium line featuring a new stainless steel interior. Electrolux said it chose the Kinston factory for the investment because it is a world-class facility in terms of cost, quality, safety and productivity.

"We have great confidence in the ability of the people at our Kinston dishwasher factory to produce the industry's best premium dishwasher for the most discerning consumers," said Keith McLoughlin, Electrolux CEO of Major Appliances for North and Latin America. "The new products are aimed at the fastest growing segment of the market. Along with the other dishwashers we make at Kinston, Electrolux will have its most comprehensive dishwasher offering ever."

The design of the new dishwashers is based on Electrolux's consumer research, and the appliances will have advanced performance features in addition to the stainless steel interior, which is seen as in-demand by premium dishwasher buyers. The new design will include technology developed by Electrolux's Global Dishwasher team, making them the most advanced dishwashers within Electrolux.

North Carolina Governor Mike Easley announced a significant grant to Electrolux from the One North Carolina Fund, which assists the state in recruiting and expanding quality jobs. The grant will be used for equipment and tooling for the expansion project.

"The fact that North Carolina was selected is further proof that our state is well-positioned in the new global marketplace," Easley said. "We will continue to make smart investments in education and worker training to ensure that we retain our reputation as one of the best places in the world to do business."
