Royal Philips Electronics said it has started a new production line of flat-screen television sets that will triple its TV output in Mexico for 2006 versus this year.

The electronics maker said in a statement that the new line in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, will raise its output of flat screen TV sets in Mexico this year to 200,000 units, up from 10,000 in 2004.

The company expects to make 600,000 flat screen TVs in Mexico in 2006.

"This growth reflects the confidence that Philips has maintained in Mexico over 66 years of presence and investment," said Paulo Simas Abreu, president of Philips Mexico.
