Lowe's to Invest in Distribution Expansion Sep 1, 2005

Lowe's Companies, Inc. announced the company will invest approximately U.S. $150 million in expanding its distribution network, including the construction of a new regional distribution center in Lebanon, Oregon, U.S. and expansion of three existing distribution facilities in Valdosta, Georgia, U.S., Statesville, North Carolina, U.S. and North Vernon, Indiana, U.S.

The expansions will enhance Lowe's ability to supply its growing store base throughout the U.S., in addition to handling additional products, including major appliances as part of the company's R3 (Rapid Response Replenishment) distribution initiative.

Construction is underway on all four projects. The 1.4 million square-foot Oregon regional distribution center is expected to become operational in 2007. The three distribution center expansions, totaling 1.4 million square feet, are expected to be online by spring 2006.

Lowe's expansion plans include the opening of 150 new stores in fiscal 2005 and between 150 to 160 stores in fiscal 2006. Lowe's distribution network includes 11 regional distribution centers throughout the U.S.
