Durable Goods Take Tumble In U.S. Aug 24, 2005

U.S. orders of durable manufactured goods fell in July by $10.6 billion or 4.9 percent to $204.7 billion, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report today. This comes on the heels of a 1.9 percent increase in June.

Nondefense new orders for capital goods in July decreased $5.6 billion or 7.3 percent to $71.1 billion.

July shipments of manufactured durable goods were down following two consecutive monthly increases. Shipments decreased $0.2 billion or 0.1 percent to $206.4 billion. This followed a 0.3 percent June increase.

July unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods were up for the third consecutive month, increasing $5.6 billion or 1.0 percent to $580.3 billion. This followed a 2.8 percent June increase.

July inventories of manufactured durable goods, up seventeen of the last eighteen months, increased $1.6 billion or 0.6 percent to $282.2 billion. This followed a 0.4 percent June decrease.
