Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn Bhd, the marketing arm of South Korea's technology giant Samsung, is aiming to be the country's number one audio and video (AV) brand by 2006. The company launched its largest-ever AV roadshow in conjunction with the unveiling of Samsung's Imagine brand global campaign. "Collectively, at this launch we have over 30 new products that we are rolling out in the Malaysia market," said Samsung Malaysia managing director, Won Jong Duk.
Mr. Duk said by the end of this year, Samsung will add more than 60 new AV products. He said Samsung is leveraging on the Imagine brand campaign to make the company the preferred choice. He said the new leading edge products include digital home entertainment systems, namely liquid crystal display and plasma televisions, as well as projection and digital light projection televisions and home theater systems.
Mr. Duk said the Imagine campaign, coupled with the new product range, will help push Samsung Malaysia's sales to U.S. $400 million by the year-end. The sales target is a 40 percent growth from last year's $300 million and if achieved, would make the company the second-ranked brand in Malaysia.
Last year, its consumer electronics, which consists of AV and home appliance products as well as information technology goods, contributed 20 percent each to the company's total sales, while the balance 60 percent was from mobile phones. (Business Times)
