Master-Bilt, the New Albany, MS, U.S.-based manufacturer of commercial refrigeration systems, has introduced a new series of American-made gelato cases. The new series will be on display at the 2005 NAFEM show, being held in Anaheim, CA, U.S. on September 23-25.

According to the company, its GEL series is the first-ever American-made gelato case, helping customers avoid hassles associated with overseas manufacturers and dollar fluctuations. Master-Bilt says the merchandisers will also ship fully assembled to make installation as easy as possible.

The GEL series features a top-hinged front display door that reportedly stays in place at whatever point it is raised. The top hinge is also said to allow for easy cleaning and helps prevent corrosion problems and possible health code violations by keeping spills from collecting in the usual bottom hinge area. Additionally, the evaporator coil is concealed to avoid spillage and possible premature refrigeration system failure.

The new gelato cases come in three models: GEL-6 (six pans wide), GEL-9 (nine pans wide), and GEL-12 (12 pans wide), all of which are two pans deep. The GEL-6 contains one condensing unit, while the 9 and 12 contain two. The cases can use 5-L pans or USA standard 1/3, 1/2, and full pans or even 3-gal tubs. The temperature range adjusts from -5 degrees F to 20 degrees F, making it ideal for merchandising gelato, ice cream, sorbet, or Italian ice. The walls are 2-in thick with polyurethane insulation in the refrigeration compartment for reliable performance.

The gelato cases also come equipped with T8 electronic lighting for increased product visibility and energy savings. A sliding rear door on the back of the case allows easy employee access to the product, and cases come in standard black finish with a stainless steel front panel. Optional color finishes and laminates are available.
