Changhong Electric Appliance Co. Ltd., a leading Chinese TV maker, is considering several sites in the Czech Republic to build a new plant, a Czech official said.
Petr Bendl, the governor of the district of Central Bohemia, said a mission from the Chinese firm will be visiting to scout possible locations for the plant, but did not give any further details.
"The investment should be relatively big because the factory would supply the entire European market," Benda's spokesman Martin Kupka told Reuters.
Changhong claims to be the world's second-largest maker of TVs after South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.
China's TV makers have waged a price war since the late 1990s due to a surplus of supplies, pushing them to set their sights on overseas markets. (Reuters)
