LG.Philips LCD Co. retained its position as the world's largest manufacturer of liquid crystal display (LCD) screens based on revenue in April, according to a U.S.-based industry analyst.
LG.Philips, a joint venture between LG Electronics Inc. of South Korea and Royal Philips Electronics NV of the Netherlands, posted U.S. $772 million from LCD sales in April, compared with its closest rival Samsung Electronics Co.'s $709 million, DisplaySearch said.
LG.Philips, which regained the leading position in March after 17 months, saw its LCD sales in April rise 2.1 percent from the previous month, while Samsung experienced a 2.7-percent decline in the same period.
Meanwhile, combined revenue for LCD sales in April by three South Korean makers, including LG.Philips and Samsung, and five Taiwanese companies rose 3.4 percent from the previous month to $2.77 billion, DisplaySearch said.
Because of an industry glut, global LCD prices declined 5 percent during the first quarter after a 20-percent drop the previous 3 months, according to an earlier statement from LG.Philips. (Yonhap)
