Toshiba to Produce LCD TVs in Indonesia May 17, 2005

PT Toshiba Consumer Products Indonesia (TCPI) has started producing liquid crystal display (LCD) television sets in the country.

This year's production is set at 50,000 units of 27- and 42-in TV sets, according to Hidemori Asano, the company's president.

Mr. Asano said TCPI invested U.S. $2 million to build an additional production line in its factory in Cikarang, Bekasi. He said Toshiba has closed a number of its regional factories, moving operations to Indonesia.

The market demand for LCD TV sets is relatively small at around 1,000 units per year, but it is growing, Mr. Asano said, adding that around 90 percent of the production will be exported. (ANTARA)
