Hisense Air Conditioner Co. Ltd., a leading home appliance manufacturer of China based in coastal Shandong Province, announced that the company's variable frequency air-conditioner production base in Huzhou of East China's Zhejiang Province has officially started batch production.
The base, Hisense (Zhejiang) Air Conditioner Co. Ltd, will be capable of producing 1 million sets of air-conditioners in the first phase and 2 million sets in the second phase.
The production base is a joint venture of Hisense Air Conditioner Co. and Zhejiang Xianke Air Conditioner Company and has more than 60,000 sq m of factory buildings and storehouses. Hisense has invested 56 million yuan (approx. U.S. $6.8 million) in the base.
Hisense believes variable frequency technology can help China's current situation of power strain. The region is considered a large air-conditioner producer and consumer. According to statistics, there are 80 million air-conditioners in service in Chinese households nationwide at present, consuming more than 40 billion kWh of electricity a year. By applying variable frequency technology to air conditioner manufacturing, China may save 80 billion yuan (approx. $9.7 billion) a year. (XIC)
