Appliance maker Thermador(R), part of BSH Home Appliances Corporation, announced it is the recipient of four 2004 Good Design Awards from the Chicago Athenaeum. Two of the awards were for specific products, while the remaining two were for entire categories.
Product awards went to Thermador's industry exclusive triple oven, the 30-in SEMW Wall Oven, which includes a microwave, warming drawer, and convection oven. The SEMW also features a Personal Culinary Assistant(TM) system, which is said to allow the user to see and operate all cooking modes with a single touch.
The company was also awarded for its Universal Cook 'n' Vent (UCV) downdraft ventilation system, which is said to quickly and quietly eliminate steam, smoke, heat, odors, and grease from the kitchen with a 600 cfm integral blower. At 15 in, the UCV is 50 to 80 percent taller than similar competitive units, and when retracted stands above countertops.
In addition, the two categories awarded this honor were Thermador's Professional(R) Series Ranges and Cooktops and Built-in Refrigeration.
The company says its Professional Series Ranges and Cooktops have advanced features for a higher standard of performance. Thermador's ranges and cooktops feature the company's Star(R) Burner, a three-in-one burner that features 15,000 BTUs, and the patented ExtraLow(R) simmer function, which electronically cycles the flame on and off for precise simmer control for melting chocolate or keeping delicate sauces warm without scorching. Thermador's Built-In Refrigeration Series claims to be the quietest refrigeration on the market at just 35 to 37 decibels and features a stainless steel front, tempered glass shelves, and brushed aluminum rails.
