Hill PHOENIX Inc., a Dover Company, unveiled the retail industry's first six-door, refrigerated display case at the Food Marketing Institute FMI Show 2003 in Chicago, IL, U.S. Part of the Origin2(TM) line of Hill PHOENIX products, the new reach-in case is 30 inches longer than any other case on the market and is available with shelf depths of up to 27 inches.
"Our new Origin2 six-door display case is a major product breakthrough," said Shawn Kahler, product manager, Display Cases for Hill PHOENIX. "Its unique design will significantly reduce costs for retailers."
A major cost reduction will come in labor costs associated with installation of a row of refrigerated cases. According to Kahler, a retail store typically has four rows of reach-in refrigerated cases, with each row consisting of approximately 30 doors.
"The new Hill PHOENIX six-door display case eliminates an entire case and still achieves the same overall line-up length," Mr. Kahler elaborated. By reducing the number of cases, you eliminate the cost of a labor crew to level the cases, hook up plumbing and electrical wiring, and install refrigerant. If you translate a conservative estimate of $1,000 in labor crew costs per case, you can see how quickly the savings can add up. By expanding the case to six doors, we've eliminated nearly 20 percent of joints, 20 percent of installation costs, and 17 to 20 percent of on-going maintenance costs," he said.
Another retail benefit: the new six-door display case has a maximum shelf depth of 27 inches, allowing retailers to stock more refrigerated items and reduce labor costs in restocking.
"We estimate retailers will see increases in excess of $200 in revenue per door thanks to the deeper shelf," he added.
