Mostra Convegno 2006 to be Environment Friendly

Trade show organizer Fiera Milano International said that the Mostra Convegno Expocomfort (MCE) -- the international biennial exhibition for the domestic and industrial comfort systems sector -- complies with the AzzeroCO2 initiative promoted by the Kyoto Club and Italian environmental organizations Lega Ambiente and Ambiente Italia. The exhibition complies by neutralizing its emissions of carbon dioxide through carbon credits of the Alpine valleys of Lombardy, now that the Kyoto protocol has come into force.

MCE said it has always been concerned by environmental sustainability. For the 2006 show, to be held at the new Rho-Pero trade fair grounds, MCE has once again decided to stage Next Energy, the exhibition dedicated to energy efficiency and renewable energies, and to make the whole trade fair "Carbon Neutral." It will do this by nullifying and offsetting its CO2 emissions by means of carbon credits (820 tons of CO2) through heating from remote networks, fed by biomass installations in the Alpine valleys of Lombardy, in place of diesel.

The awareness that holding a trade fair also has an impact on the environment -- through electricity consumption, transportation of exhibitors and visitors, setting up stands, and the production of promotional material -- brought about the decision to make MCE 2006 Carbon Neutral.

"We are well aware that Mostra Convegno Expocomfort, like all trade fairs, contributes to the production of carbon dioxide, which is a major cause of climate change on our planet. But our DNA, as always sensitive to the protection and conservation of our environment, has made us choose to turn the 2006 edition into a zero-impact fair," said Arturo Colantuoni Sanvenero, managing director of Fiera Milano International. "We are the first in our sector and we do hope that other similar exhibitions, in Italy and overseas, will follow our example."

Fiera Milano said its decision builds on the themes of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability promoted at the fair by the Next Energy exhibition. This, it said, is an opportunity to compare what is available on the market in terms of applications, solutions, and systems to optimize energy consumption in the domestic sector. Fiera Milano also believes it provides a chance to forge relations with the worlds of research, industry, and institutions that are thematically close to the ideas behind the initiative.
