Samsung to Increase Revenue in Asia, Australia Mar 8, 2005

Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. announced that it is targeting a 35-percent rise in sales to U.S. $10 billion in Southeast Asia and Australia this year as it steps up efforts to sell more home appliances and notebook PCs, a senior official said.

"We see great growth potential in mobile digital multimedia, high-end IT products and digital home appliances," Park Sang Jin, Samsung Asia president and CEO, said as he unveiled a growth target that exceeded the 2-percent sales increase the parent company is expecting for 2005.

Mr. Park said the company planned to launch its range of ultra-thin notebook PCs in Southeast Asia later this year. The notebooks PCs were popular during earlier launches in Europe, China, and South Korea, he said.

Samsung is also hopeful of growing sales of digital home appliances, including washing machines, highlighting innovations such as its anti-bacteria technology. "Our goal is to increase our sales by over 60 percent this year, a huge target in such a competitive and mature category," Mr. Park said. (Dow Jones)
