Samsung to Invest in New LCD Production Line Feb 25, 2005

Samsung Electronics Co., a manufacturer of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, said it will invest 2.08 trillion won (approx. U.S. $2 billion) on a new LCD production line.

The spending will be for equipment and clean-room facilities for a second production line at its seventh-generation LCD plant in Asan, about 120 km south of Seoul, Samsung said. It said the plant will produce LCD panels 1.87-m long and 2.2-m wide, the same as its existing 7-1 production line.

The new line will be largely dedicated to churning out LCD panels diagonally measuring 32, 40, and 46 in, the company said. The plant is scheduled to begin operation during the first-half of 2006 with a monthly production capacity of 45,000 sheets. (Yonhap)
