AHAM Revises Food Disposer Performance Standard Feb 15, 2005

The Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) announced it has published a revised product characteristic test procedure, AHAM-FWD-1, Standard for Food Waste Disposers.

The FWD-1 Task Force revised the 1992 standard with a number of clarifying and editorial changes and it will now be published as an AHAM standard.

According to AHAM, the standard establishes a uniform, repeatable procedure, or standard method for measuring specified product characteristics of household food waste disposers.

The test methods included in the standard are said to provide a means to compare and evaluate different brands and models of food waste disposers regarding characteristics significant to product use. AHAM says manufacturers also use the standard to benchmark product performance and to assist in new product design.

The scope of the AHAM FWD-1-2005 standard applies to household food waste disposers and is intended to cover definitions, general characteristics, nameplate information, construction characteristics, and test procedures.
