Sanyo Epson to Establish Manufacturing Subsidiary in the Philippines Feb 10, 2005

Sanyo Epson Imaging Devices Corporation will establish a wholly owned subsidiary in the Philippines in April 2005.

To be named Sanyo Epson Imaging Devices (Philippines), Inc. (SEPH), the new subsidiary will take over the display manufacturing operations currently conducted by Epson Precision (Philippines) Inc. (EPPI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Seiko Epson Corporation.

As a preliminary step, EPPI will establish a wholly owned subsidiary, Epson Imaging Devices Philippines Inc., on February 15. Authorization for this move has come from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.

Since August 2004, EPPI has been carrying out back-end processing operations for Epson's liquid crystal display (LCDs). With the establishment of Sanyo Epson in October 2004, EPPI is spinning off its back-end operations, which will be taken over by SEPH to establish an integrated manufacturing setup for LCDs from front-end through back-end processing.

Sanyo Epson says it is reorganizing its facilities for front-end processing of LCDs to create competitively priced products with high added value. The company also considers it necessary to build up manufacturing capabilities for back-end operations, hence, the establishment of SEPH. (JCN Newswire)
