The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) said this year's International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Orlando, FL, U.S. was the most successful and well-attended annual convention in its history. Approximately 105,000 housing professionals attended the event on January 13-16, viewing more than 1.5 million sq ft of exhibits showcasing products for the residential and light-commercial construction industries.

"This outstanding turnout reflects the amazing strength of today's housing industry, and next year looks equally good for when the International Builders’ Show returns to Orlando," said NAHB President Dave Wilson. The show had been held in Las Vegas, NV, U.S. for the previous 2 years.

The 4-day expo began on January 13 with Grand Opening Ceremonies headlined by U.S. football legend Terry Bradshaw. Another featured speaker, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn., U.S.), addressed the NAHB board of directors on Jan. 15. The senator spoke on a wide range of U.S. housing industry concerns, including tax issues, regulatory reform, tort relief, and the need for affordable healthcare legislation.

The official rollout of NAHB’s new Model Green Home Building Guidelines also occurred during the show. The initiative was introduced as a way to help mainstream home builders incorporate environmentally sensitive products and construction methods while still placing a priority on housing affordability. They cover a variety of "green" solutions across all aspects of the building process -- from lot design and preparation to indoor air quality and home owner maintenance and operation once a project is complete.

"The 2005 IBS was unquestionably NAHB’s most successful show to date," said NAHB President Dave Wilson. "Special thanks goes to everyone at the Orange County Convention Center. We look forward to seeing all the exhibitors and attendees back next year."
