Black and Decker, a manufacturer of power tools and home improvement products is opening the first phase of a new Regional Distribution Center for the Middle East and Africa at JAFZA (Jebel Ali Free Zone) in Dubai.
The regional distribution center, to be officially opened by Abdullah Lootah, JAFZA chief operating officer, will be the first of a two-phase project. With the completion of the second phase by September 2005, the facility would double the distribution capabilities of the regional office.
Black and Decker's regional headquarters based in Dubai serves the geographical territory of the Middle East, Africa, and the Indian sub-continent, spanning 75 countries.
"A number of JAFZA's companies in various fields have expanded in a large way, and they have achieved amazing results in a short period, capturing a distinguished rank in the regional and global markets," said Mr. Lootah. "We believe in the importance of strengthening our business relations with customers, using their remarks and ideas to develop and improve our services according to their needs."
He added, "Recently we started infrastructure works and expansion for the southern area of JAFZA, opposite Sheikh Zayed Road, following a good response from over 3,800 local and global companies in various activities covering most of the economic sectors."
The company said aggressive growth registering 30 to 50 percent across the three business units, namely Black & Decker Power Tools, Home Appliances, and DeWalt Industrial Tools, have reinforced the company's leading market share position. The region contributed the highest growth rate for the Towson, MD, U.S.-based manufacturer.
