Although originally dissolved in late 2002, Domotechnica will take place again in Cologne, Germany in February 2006.
The announcement was made a day after Messe Berlin GmbH and Koelnmesse GmbH reported that it was folding its joint venture, CBF (Cologne Berlin Fairs GmbH & Co. KG.), which organized the HomeTech trade fair. As a result, the companies will no longer organize HomeTech 2006, which was scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany.
HomeTech was launched in February 2002 under a joint venture between Messe Berlin GmbH and the European Association of Domestic Appliance Manufacturers (CECED). At the end of 2002, the trade fair companies in Berlin and Cologne decided to set up a single joint venture that would serve in the future as an international marketing platform for the domestic appliance industry. The intention was to hold the fair every 2 years, alternating between Cologne and Berlin.
However, many leading members of CECED did not take part in HomeTech 2004. And while the response by small and medium-sized companies kept HomeTech Cologne 2004 afloat, several companies said they would prefer Cologne as the home for the trade fair.
"The international home appliance industry needs a purely trade-oriented event in Germany that is regularly scheduled at a single location. And starting in 2006, that's exactly what Domotechnica in Cologne will be," said Wolfgang Kranz, executive vice president of Marketing at Koelnmesse GmbH.
Koelnmesse said it made the move primarily in response to the wishes expressed by medium-sized German companies from the sector. "We're glad that the uncertainty over the trade fair's location is finally over. We've always preferred Cologne as the venue for an international trade fair," the organization said.
The new Domotechnica, an international trade fair for home appliances, will be held February 13-16, 2006.
