APPLIANCE magazine attended the 2005 International CES in Las Vegas, NV, U.S. Jan. 6-9, 2005 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The show registered more than 140,000 attendees from 115 countries .

With more than 2,500 exhibitors showcasing the latest developments in consumer technology, the show took up an estimated 1.5 million-sq-ft of exhibit space. International attendance also grew to more than 23,000, up from 18,000 at the 2004 CES.

The show, produced by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), included exhibitors displaying product and technology introductions in audio, home networking, video, wireless, and mobile electronic segments. Companies also displayed the latest advancements in digital imaging, digital audio, and plasma and LCD displays.

In addition, several exhibitors showcased high definition television (HDTV) products, including products in which consumers could use to build a HDTV platform, such as wired and wireless connections and remotes to stream HD video throughout the entire home and new HD recording devices.

The show featured several keynote speakers, including Bill Gates, Mircosoft chairman and chief software architect; Craig Barrett, Intel Corporation CEO; Ron Garriques, president of personal devices businesses and executive vice president of Motorola, Inc.; Carly Fiorina, HP chairman and CEO; and Rich Templeton, president and CEO of Texas Instruments.

"The 2005 International CES succeeded by every measure," said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the CEA. "From the international audience, major media, and top buyers that came to the International CES, to the top-notch keynotes and conferences, government leaders and exhibitors showcasing the amazing breadth and depth of the CE industry, this event truly was the place to be over the past week for anyone involved in the global consumer technology industry."

The 2006 International CES will be held Jan. 5-8 in Las Vegas, NV, U.S.
