Toshiba America Honored with Four CES 2005 Innovations Awards

Toshiba America Consumer Products announced that it has been honored with four CEA Innovations 2005 Design and Engineering Showcase Awards and one Best of Innovations Award.

The winners include the 62HMX94 Cinema Series(R) DLP(TM) Projection TV, the 23HLV84 TheaterWide(R) HD LCD TV/DVD combination unit, the 160HD4 Symbio(TM) High Definition Hard Drive Recorder, and the SD-P2700 Portable DVD Player. The SD-P2700 was awarded the Best of Innovations in the Mobile/Vehicle Electronics Audio/Video category.

"We are delighted to have been honored with four Innovations Awards and a Best of Innovations Award," said Maria Repole, senior manager of Public Relations and Corporate Events at Toshiba America Consumer Products. "At Toshiba we strive to provide our customers with products offering features that help make their lives better, while also offering beautiful cosmetic designs. We are proud that four of our home entertainment products have been recognized by this year's judges."

The CES Innovations Awards showcase the best products in design and engineering in 27 categories. Sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the International CES Innovations Awards highlight product advancements in technology design and engineering. The Best of Innovations designation is awarded to products that earned the highest honors from the panel of judges.

The winning products include:

  • SD-P2700 Portable DVD Player: The portable DVD player features a high-resolution, 8.9-in widescreen TFT LCD display with a swivel screen.

  • 62HMX94 Cinema Series DLP Projection TV: The technology at the center of the TV is a proprietary Digital Light Engine named TALEN(TM) (Toshiba Advanced Light Engine) designed and manufactured by Toshiba. The new system utilizes Texas Instruments' new step-up HD2+ chip to provide high resolution with enhanced brightness and contrast. The set also includes TV Guide On Screen(R), an interactive program guide, as well as a CableCARD(TM) slot for digital cable compatibility.

  • 23HLV84 TheaterWide(R) HD Monitor LCD TV/ DVD: This combo product has a TV panel resolution of 720p (1366 x 768) True HD and a contrast ratio of 500:1. It also incorporates a built- in, slot-loading DVD player. In addition to DVD-Video, CD, and Video CD playback, the player is also DVD-R/CD-R/CD-RW compatible.

  • 160HD4 Symbio(TM) High Definition Hard Drive Recorder: Symbio is an external 160-GB hard drive that works with the control functions in all 2004 Toshiba integrated HDTV models. There is a one-wire connection, utilizing the TV's IEEE1394 port. Symbio utilizes the TV Guide On Screen system in the TV to allow for one touch recording of both standard and high definition TV content.
