Sanyo Settles Patent Suit with Ampex Dec 1, 2004

Sanyo Electric Co. has settled a patent infringement lawsuit with U.S. audio and video equipment maker Ampex Corp. over its use of Ampex's digital image processing technology.

Sanyo settled the suit, agreeing to pay Ampex patent fees, but did not disclose the amount of money paid to Ampex, citing contractual restrictions.

Ampex, based in Redwood City, CA, U.S., filed complaints with the U.S. International Trade Commission in late May claiming that Sanyo has been infringing its patents on image processing technology used for digital cameras and other equipment. Ampex also filed a damages lawsuit with a federal district court in Delaware.

Another Japanese electronic firm, Sony Corp., was in a similar lawsuit with Ampex, and already has agreed to pay U.S. $40 million dollars to settle the case. (Jiji Press)
