Audio equipment maker Dolby Laboratories, Inc. announced two changes to its executive team. Steve Forshay has been promoted to senior vice president of Research. He previously held the title of vice president of Research and Development. The company also announced the promotion of Craig Todd to vice president of Technology Strategy.

Since joining Dolby in 1982, Mr. Forshay has helped facilitate research and development of audio and surround sound technologies. In addition to overseeing technology research activities, including sound technology as well as image signal processing and related entertainment technologies, Mr. Forshay participates in formulation and oversight of corporate business, technology, and standards strategies.

Mr. Forshay holds a BSEE from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and an MBA from St. Mary's College. He is a member of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

In his new role, Mr. Todd will be responsible for leading identification and assessment of new opportunities, coordination of standards activities, and making recommendations regarding medium- and long-term corporate technology strategy. Mr. Todd and his Technology Strategy Group will continue to report in as part of Dolby's Research Division.

After joining the company in 1977, Mr. Todd worked on the development of Dolby(R) Surround. In 1992 he focused his efforts on bringing multichannel digital audio to the consumer. A holder of more than 20 patents, Mr. Todd has participated in standards-setting activities for the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC), the Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) project, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-R), the Audio Engineering Society (AES), the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), and the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA).
