Small appliance maker Salton, Inc. announced an agreement with Smarthome, Inc., a provider of automated products for the home, to offer Salton's entire Beyond(TM) Connected Home product line to customers of Smarthome's print catalogs and online store.
The Salton Beyond product line consists of "smart" appliances and products primarily focused in the kitchen that are part of a networked home. The initial products to be carried by Smarthome include:
iCEBOX -- A12-in LCD monitor that mounts under the kitchen cabinet to provide broadband Internet access, and features a television, DVD and CD player, FM radio and home video monitoring capabilities. Available in a variety of colors, it includes a wipe-clean touch screen, a washable, wireless keyboard and remote, and quick-change mode buttons.
Bread Maker -- The bread maker stores hundreds of pre-programmed barcodes, and ensures each recipe turns out correctly. The bread maker automatically "learns" new barcodes from the online Beyond Information Network.
Microwave - Like the bread maker, the microwave can store more than 4,000 barcodes, allowing it to cook meals according to directions.
"Salton sees the connected home as the contemporary norm for the 21st century and is excited about the opportunity for our new Beyond product line to be distributed through the world's largest distributor of home automation products," said Bob Lamson, managing director of Beyond Connected Home at Salton. "We anticipate that Smarthome's customers will welcome the availability of Salton's unique new product line."
