Authors are being sought to write a manual to help users meet the requirements of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers' (ASHRAE) residential ventilation standard.
The proposed manual will apply to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.2-2003, Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Low-Rise Residential Buildings, which is the only nationally recognized indoor air quality standard developed solely for residences.
"The manual will assist users in understanding the principles upon which the standard is based, the requirements of the standard and how those requirements may be met," David Grimsrud, Ph.D., chair of the Standard 62.2 committee, said. "It will provide explanations of the standard's requirements and examples of its application."
The Standard 62.2 manual is one of nine proposals for research and special projects released for bid by ASHRAE. Bids are due Dec. 15, 2004 and projects are scheduled to begin April 1, 2005.
The manual will provide a thorough explanation of several requirements such as rationale of formulas, and examples provided. The manual will detail mechanical ventilation system choices, combustion appliance considerations, and design of kitchen and bathroom ventilation and filtration.
The standard recently was proposed for inclusion in the 2006 International Residential Code. Since the standard likely will be adopted by code bodies, the association says several issues should be explained more thoroughly, such as rationale of formulas, and examples provided.
