Specialty barbeque retailer Barbeques Galore Limited reported that sales for the third quarter ended Oct. 31, 2004 were U.S. $50.4 million, up 4.7 percent from $48.2 million in same period last year.
Sales in both Australia and the U.S. were up during the quarter compared to third quarter 2003. Net sales in Australia were $24.9 million, up 2.5 percent compared to the 2003 period. Net sales in the U.S. were $25.5 million for the quarter, an increase of 7 percent from the prior-year period.
Total net sales for the 9 months ended Oct. 31, 2004 were $151.5 million, up 12.1 percent compared to the same period last year. Sales increased 13.7 percent and 11 percent in Australia and the U.S., respectively, compared to the prior-year period.
Barbeques Galore also made some strategic changes in the third quarter. In the U.S., the retailer relocated its store in Tarzana, CA, U.S. to what it says is a larger and more prominent location. In addition, on Nov. 1, 2004, Barbeques Galore acquired the two franchised stores operated in Atlanta, GA, U.S.
In Australia, the company commenced trading in its expanded flagship store in Moore Park, New South Wales and relocated its Morley store in Western Australia to larger premises.
In the fourth quarter, the company plans to open a new store in Fortitude Valley, Queensland and relocate its stores in Ringwood, Victoria and Launceston, Tasmania.
